La Cimarrona

Cimarrones: los esclavos negros del Peru que se escapaban de la casa de sus amos.
Translation= Black Peruvian Slaves who did it gangsta and escaped from their slave masters.

As I was reading this book by Fernando Torres Cuba "Raices Historicas y Culturales del Peru" I came across various terms used to describe blacks during slavery in Peru. For example, Blacks who didn't speak spanish were called "bozal" but if they did then they were called "ladino". When I read "cimarrones" I thought...that's me...I'm a cimarrona, or at least I like to think so. Strong, savy, and a woman who believes in the liberation of all oppressed people. That's why I've named my new blog "La Cimarrona". I'm sure as time passes I will find more reasons why I am La Cimarrona. In the mean time I simply wanted to start this blog because in about a month and a half I will be leaving for Honduras, which will be my new home for the next two years. I'd like to keep an online journal of sorts so that my friends and family back in the states can tune in to my life via my blog. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of blogs but I think in this situation it will prove to be useful, interesting and hopefully something I can reflect upon in the future.

For now, I'll keep things short and sweet. More entries to eventually come.
